Privacy Policy

Last updated

This policy explains what information is handled when you visit the PASSION website, why it is handled, and the choices you have. The short answer: very little, and none of it is used to track you.

In brief

  • This website does not ask you for personal information. There are no accounts, forms, newsletters or online sales.
  • It does not set cookies or use analytics, advertising or other tracking tools.
  • Your answer to the age question is saved in your own browser and is not sent to us.
  • The servers that host the site keep standard technical logs so it can run securely.

Who this policy covers

This policy applies to the PASSION website (the “site”), which presents the Romeo & Juliet, Don Adriano 1950 and Passion of Portugal brands. In it, “PASSION”, “we” and “us” refer to the operator of the site.

We handle personal information in keeping with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and any provincial privacy law that applies. This policy does not cover the other websites the site links to, such as the LCBO or the brands’ own websites, which have their own privacy policies.

What we collect

Information you send us. The site has no forms, so it collects nothing that you type into it. If you contact us directly, we receive the information you choose to share, such as your name, contact details and message.

Your age confirmation. When you confirm that you are of legal drinking age, the site saves the date and time of that confirmation in your browser’s local storage, under the name passion:age-confirmed, so you are not asked again on every page. It stays on your device and is never sent to us. After 30 days it expires and you are asked again. If you answer “no”, nothing is saved. You can remove it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.

Technical information. Like most websites, the servers that host the site may automatically record technical details of each visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the page that referred you, and the date and time. This is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix problems, not to identify you or build a profile of you.

Cookies and tracking

The site does not set cookies and does not use analytics, advertising, social media plug-ins or other tracking technologies. Its typefaces and images are served from the site itself, so viewing a page does not pass your information to font or image services.

If this changes, we will update this policy first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent.

How we use information

We use personal information only to:

  • reply to you when you contact us;
  • operate, maintain and protect the site; and
  • meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for marketing without your consent. We collect only what we need for these purposes.

Sharing and storage

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the site, such as our hosting provider, and only as far as they need it to provide that service, or where the law requires us to.

These providers may store or process information outside your province or outside Canada. When they do, it is subject to the laws of those places, which may allow governments, courts or law-enforcement agencies there to access it.

Legal drinking age

The site is intended only for people of legal drinking age in their province or territory. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If you believe that someone under the legal drinking age has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Retention and security

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for, or as long as the law requires, and then delete it or make it anonymous.

We protect it with safeguards suited to its sensitivity, and the site is served over an encrypted connection. No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, but we work to protect what we hold.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to its use, subject to legal and contractual limits. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within the time the law allows, which is 30 days in most cases under PIPEDA.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (opens in a new tab) or the privacy commissioner in your province.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised. The Terms of Use explain the other conditions that apply to the site.
